Inspiring Story

He Never Missed a Game
Bob Richards, the former pole-vault champion, shares a moving story about a skinny young boy who loved football with all his heart.

Practice after practice, he eagerly gave everything he had. But being half the size of the other boys, he got absolutely nowhere. At all the games, this hopeful athlete sat on the bench and hardly ever played.

This teenager lived alone with his father, and the two of them had a very special relationship. Even though the son was always On the bench, his father was always in the stands cheering. He never missed a game. This young man was still the smallest of the class when he entered high school. But his father continued to encourage him but also made it very clear that he did not have to play football if he didn't want to.

But the young man loved football and decided to hang in there. He was determined to try his best at every practice, and perhaps he'd get to play when he became a senior. All through high school he never missed a practice nor a game but remained a bench-warmer all four years. His faithful father was always in the stands, always with words of encouragement for him. When the young man went to college, he decided to try out for the football team as a "walk-on." Everyone was sure he could never make the cut, but he did.

The coach admitted that he kept him on the roster because he always puts his heart and soul to every practice, and at the same time, provided the other members with the spirit and hustle they badly needed.

The news that he had survived the cut thrilled him so much that he rushed to the nearest phone and called his father. His father shared his excitement and was sent season tickets for all the college games. This persistent young athlete never missed practice during his four years at college, but he never got to play in a game.

It was the end of his senior football season, and as he trotted onto the practice field shortly before the big playoff game, the coach met him with a telegram. The young man read the telegram and he became deathly silent. Swallowing hard, he mumbled to the coach, 'My father died this morning. Is it all right if I miss practice today?' The coach put his arm gently around his shoulder and said, 'Take the rest of the week off, son. And don't even plan to come back to the game on Saturday.'

Saturday arrived, and the game was not going well. In the third quarter, when the team was ten points behind, a silent young man quietly slipped into the empty locker room and put on his football gear. As he ran onto the sidelines, the coach and his players were astounded to see their faithful teammate back so soon. 'Coach, please let me play. I've just got to play today,' said the young man. The coach pretended not to hear him. There was no way he wanted his worst player in this close playoff game. But the young man persisted, and finally feeling sorry for the kid, the coach gave in.

All right,' he said. 'You can go in.' Before long, the coach, the players and everyone in the stands could not believe their eyes. This little unknown, who had never played before was doing everything right. The opposing team could not stop him. He ran, he passed, blocked, and tackled like a star. His team began to triumph. The score was soon tied. In the closing seconds of the game, this kid intercepted a pass and ran all the way for the winning touchdown. The fans broke loose. His teammates hoisted him onto their shoulders. Such cheering you never heard.

Finally, after the stands had emptied and the team had showered and left the locker room, the coach noticed that this young man was sitting quietly in the corner all alone The coach came to him and said, 'Kid, I can't believe it. You were fantastic! Tell me what got into you? How did you do it?"'

He looked at the coach, with tears in his eyes, and said, 'Well, you knew my dad died, but did you know that my dad was blind?'

The young man swallowed hard and forced a smile, 'Dad came to all my games, but today was the first time he could see me play, and I wanted to show him I could do it!'

Now You See Me (movie review)

Synopsis
Four gifted street magicians—J. Daniel Atlas, Merritt McKinney, Henley Reeves, and Jack Wilder—are brought together by an unknown benefactor and, one year later, are performing in Las Vegas as "The Four Horsemen". They are being sponsored by insurance magnate Arthur Tressler. For the finale of their first show, a member of the audience is invited to help them in their trick: robbing a bank. That audience member is Étienne Forcier, an account holder at the Crédit Républicain de Paris. Forcier is apparently teleported to his bank in Paris, where he activates an air-duct that vacuums up the money and showers it onto the crowd in Las Vegas.

Upon discovering that the money really is missing from the bank vault, FBI agent Dylan Rhodes is called to investigate the theft and is partnered with Interpol agent Alma Dray. They interrogate the Four Horsemen but release them when no explanation can be found. Dylan meets Thaddeus Bradley, a former magician who makes money by revealing the secrets behind other magicians' tricks. Thaddeus was in the audience and deduced that the Horsemen replaced the money weeks before and manipulated the audience's perception of current events, the fake money notes in the bank vault at Crédit Républicain having been counterfeited on flash paper.

Dylan, Alma, and Thaddeus attend the next performance in New Orleans. The group's finale involves them stealing roughly $140 million from Tressler's bank account and distributing it to the audience, composed of people whose insurance claims had been denied or reduced by Tressler's company. Dylan attempts to arrest the Four Horsemen, but they escape with help from hypnotised audience members. An infuriated Tressler hires Thaddeus to expose and humiliate the Horsemen in their next performance. Later, while researching the Four Horsemen's background, Alma learns about rumors of a secret society of magicians called "The Eye", who steal from the rich and powerful to give to the needy, and suggests to a sceptical Dylan the case might be tied to a magician named Lionel Shrike, whom Thaddeus had exposed 40 years earlier and who was so embarrassed that he undertook a dangerous underwater stunt involving a safe, and accidentally drowned.

The Horsemen are located in New York, but they escape during the raid to arrest them; however, Jack is presumed dead when his car crashes and bursts into flames and explodes. The remaining Horsemen vow to continue and complete their final performance, stealing a safe made by the same company that made the safe Lionel Shrike died in. They perform their one last show at 5 points during which they seemingly vanish into thin air, transforming into loads of money that is showered on the crowd. The money turns out to be a forgery and the real money is found stashed in Thaddeus's Range Rover. Thaddeus is then assumed to be the fifth Horseman and is arrested, although he claims that he was framed.

Dylan visits Thaddeus in his cell, where Thaddeus explains that the only way the safe could have been removed was if Jack was still alive, but they would have also needed an inside man. Thaddeus realizes that Dylan is the fifth Horseman when Dylan disappears from the locked cell and reappears outside it. Dylan tells Thaddeus he wants him to spend the rest of his life in jail and leaves as Thaddeus asks why he did it. The Horsemen are now rejoined by Jack, whose death had been staged. They finally meet their benefactor and are surprised to find it is Dylan. He welcomes them into "The Eye."

Later, on the Pont des Arts in France, Alma is met by Dylan who reveals himself to be the son of Lionel Shrike, the magician who drowned years ago. He masterminded and designed the Horsemen plot to obtain revenge on those involved: Thaddeus, for humiliating his father; the Crédit Républicain de Paris and Tressler's company, who refused to pay the insurance on his father's death; and the company that produced the substandard safe used in the trick that led to its failure. Alma, however, decides not to turn him in. Alma takes a lock and a key that Dylan magically produces as he proclaims, "One more secret to lock away." After Alma locks the lock on a chain fence with all of the locks that have been locked there over the years, she throws the key into the seine.

After the beginning of the credits roll in, it is seen that the Four Horsemen have driven to a wasteland in the middle of a desert. All of them enter and find a secret room containing boxes full of their new magic equipment. They turn to Merritt and ask him for his individual card to open the boxes, but he had lost the cards.

Explanation of Black Holes

Black Holes

Black holes are objects so dense, and with so much mass, that even light cannot escape their gravity.
The existence of black holes has been theorised for more than 200 years. It is impossible to observe them directly, and astronomers had no way to test their theories until Hubble arrived.
The high resolution of Hubble made it possible to see the effects of the gravitational attraction of some of these objects on their surroundings. Hubble has also proved that super massive black holes are most likely present at the centres of most, if not all, large galaxies. This has important implications for the theories of galaxy formation and evolution.
Black holes exist in different sizes. Stellar black holes, which are around the mass of our Sun, form when very large stars explode as supernovae at the end of their lives. The star's core collapses as the outer layers are blown away, leaving a small but extremely dense ball.
Supermassive black holes, many millions of times the mass of our Sun, are of more mysterious origin, and are found at the centre of galaxies. It is in the study of super massive black holes that Hubble has made its biggest contribution.

Black holes and the quasar connection

Before Hubble, quasars were considered to be isolated star-like objects of a mysterious nature. Hubble has observed several quasars and found that they all reside at galactic centres. Today most scientists believe that super massive black holes at the galactic centres are the "engines" that power the quasars.
Prior to the launch of Hubble a handful of black hole candidates had been studied but the limitations of ground based astronomy were such that irrefutable evidence for their existence could not be obtained. Black holes themselves, by definition, cannot be observed, since no light can escape from them.
However, astronomers can study the effects of black holes on their surroundings. These include powerful jets of electrons that travel huge distances, many thousands of light years from the centres of the galaxies.

Matter falling towards a black hole can also be seen emitting bright light and if the speed of this falling matter can be measured, it is possible to determine the mass of the black hole itself. This is not an easy task and it requires the extraordinary capabilities of Hubble to carry out these sophisticated measurements.

Hubble observations have been fundamental in the study of the jets and discs of matter around a number of black holes. Accurate measurements of the masses have been possible for the first time. Hubble has found black holes 3 billion times as massive as our Sun at the centre of some galaxies. While this might have been expected, Hubble has surprised everyone by providing strong evidence that black holes exist at the centres of all large galaxies.
Furthermore, it appears that larger galaxies are the hosts of larger black holes. There must be some mechanism that links the formation of the galaxy to that of its black hole and vice versa. This has profound implications for theories of galaxy formation and evolution and is an ongoing area of research in astronomy.
One big question which remains is why most galaxies in our cosmic neighbourhood, including the Milky Way, appear to have a dormant black hole which is not funnelling in large amounts of matter at present.

A unifying model

Today most astronomers believe that quasars, radio galaxies and the centres of so-called active galaxies just are different views of more or less the same phenomenon: a black hole with energetic jets beaming out from two sides. When the beam is directed towards us we see the bright lighthouse of a quasar. When the orientation of the system is different we observe it as an active galaxy or a radio galaxy. This ‘unified model’ has gained considerable support through a number of Hubble observational programs. The simplistic early ideas have however been replaced by a more complex view of this phenomenon – a view that will continue to evolve in the years to come.

My Speech

Hello everyone, my name is Selma Khairunnisa from class science 3. Here I want to introduce my self as the candidate to be the leader of student organisation.

If I've choosen as the leader, I will make a lot of positive change to this school. For example I will maximize the using of locker to keep our things so we can minimize the lost things. Like we have ever heard that so many people lost their handphone, laptop, money, and etc.

Another change is I will make this school more clear, health, and green than before. I will make a rules that every class have their own little doctor, shift for someone who want to clean the class. Also I will make Monday as a clean day, so all of the scool member have to join clear the school after the stidy time is already enough.

The last of my chance, that I will make a super mega bazzar for this school. I want people see our school as a cool school not only Hard studying school. I'm gonna tell for more details later.

So everyone, I know that I'm not a perfect person but I'll make this school perfect. That's my promise to you all, so choose me. The one and only one, Selma Khairunnisa. Thank you.
